Currently, Dr. Verma maintains an active clinical practice performing over 500 procedures per year. In addition he serves as a team physician for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls and Nazareth Academy. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Verma is actively involved in orthopaedic research with interests in basic science, biomechanics and clinical outcomes, and has recently received funding for his work from Major League Baseball.

Katie Gross

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, Katie relocated to Chicago, IL and began working at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush for Dr. Anthony Romeo in 2009 before attending PA school at Northwestern in 2010. 

After graduating PA school, Katie rejoined Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush the summer of 2012. She currently serves as Dr. Verma’s physician assistant specializing in sports surgery focusing on knee, shoulder and elbow. Katie assists Dr. Verma in formulating diagnoses and treatment plans. She also provides surgical assistance and preoperative and postoperative patient education. 

Katie currently lives in Chicago with her husband, Ryan, and her daughter.

Brendan Sweeney

Brendan joins Dr. Verma’s team with extensive training in both orthopedic medicine and pain management.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!) and Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Midwestern University.  Brendan started his medical career as a Patient Care Technician and an EMT at an urban Indianapolis hospital.  After obtaining his Master’s Degree, Brendan spent time practicing pain management for a private practice in Chicago.  Now with Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, Brendan has the opportunity to pursue his passion of orthopedics and sports medicine alongside dedicated medical providers.

Outside of the office, Brendan is active in his community and church.  He helps organize and operate an annual basketball league and coaches little league baseball, which help to support underprivileged areas of Garfield Park.  Brendan currently resides in Ukrainian Village of Chicago with his beautiful wife, Breanna.  They recently married as of this past May, 2016.

Evelina DeAvila
Evelina DeAvilaMedical Assistant
Evelina graduated from Robert Morris University in 2006. After graduation, Evelina worked as a Medical Assistant for an occupational health clinic. She has been working as Dr. Verma Medical Assistant since 2009. She assists Dr. Vermas on all administrative and medical aspects of the practice during clinic. She is responsible for ensuring a cohesive surgical experience for patients by providing patients with all information they may need prior to surgery. Evelina is fluent in Spanish.

Overall, Evelina enjoys the opportunity she has to help patients during clinic. She finds that the most rewarding aspect is working with such a dynamic and talented team. Currently, she is pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Health Sciences with minor in Marketing.

Originally from Mason City, Iowa, Morgan attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated in 2017 with a degree in Health and Human Physiology/Health Promotion and a minor in Human Relations. After graduating, she moved to Chicago. Outside of work she enjoys hanging out with my friends and working out (Orange Theory). When she can she travels home as much as possible to visit her family (mom, dad and brother), but also looks forward to them visiting her in Chicago.
